Tillamook, Oregon is a beautiful coastal town with a wonderful mix of natural beauty, unique attractions, and delicious food. It has quickly become one of our favorite places on the Oregon coast. It feels like a home away from home!

If you are visiting Tillamook, here's a five-day itinerary to help you make the most of your time there:

Day 1: Explore Tillamook

Morning:

  • Tillamook Cheese Factory: Start your trip with a visit to this iconic spot. Take the factory tour to see how cheese is made, enjoy free samples, and shop for cheese and other local products.

Lunch:

  • Blue Heron French Cheese Company: Enjoy a delicious lunch at their café, where you can try gourmet sandwiches, soups, and of course, cheese. Don’t miss their wine and cheese tasting!

Afternoon:

Evening:

  • Werner Beef & Brew: Come to this locally owned and operated restaurant, taproom, and meat market to grab some dinner. The food is outstanding! It is also home to Tillamook-based Werner Brewing Company’s beers, and they highlight other local beers & wines throughout the year. 

Day 2: Coastal Wonders

Morning:

  • Cape Meares State Scenic Viewpoint: Take a short drive to Cape Meares for stunning coastal views, a picturesque lighthouse, and a walk through the nearby forest. Don’t forget to check out the Octopus Tree, which is the largest Sitka Spruce tree in Oregon and a true marvel of nature! 

Lunch:

  • Upstairs Bar & Grill: Stop in at this cozy restaurant to grab some lunch! They offer a variety of options that cater to everyone, from burgers & seafood to pizza and soup. 

Afternoon:

  • Netarts Bay: Explore this serene bay area with a ton of activities available, like kayaking, hiking, walking on the beach, and even crabbing & clamming! If you are looking for a peaceful place to reconnect with nature, Netarts is the place for you. 

Evening:

  • Dinner at The Schooner Restaurant & Lounge: Enjoy a great seafood dinner with a view of Tillamook Bay. The Schooner is known for its fresh, local seafood and friendly atmosphere.

Day 3: Outdoor Adventure

Morning:

  • Tillamook Forest Center: Start at the forest center to learn all about the incredible history of the Tillamook State Forest and the forest ecosystem. We absolutely LOVED learning from all the exhibits inside the forest center and could have spent hours abosbing all the information. All of the staff at the center are incredible! 

There are a ton of great hiking trails all around the forest center and we really enjoyed soaking up all the natural beauty of the surrounding forest. 

The Wilson River runs near the Tillamook State Forest Center. There are a lot of trails to hike around the river!

Lunch:

  • Alice's Country House: One of the true hidden gems of the area, Alice’s Country House is right down the road from the Tillamook Forest Center. It has a cozy, intimate atmosphere that will make you feel like you’re having a home-cooked meal at a family member’s house. They offer breakfast, lunch, and dinner options. 

Afternoon:

  • Munson Creek Falls: A short drive from Tillamook, this hike leads to a beautiful waterfall, perfect for a refreshing outdoor experience.

Evening:

  • Tacos La Providencia: Check out this great locally owned food truck in Tillamook and grab some delicious Mexican food for diner! They offer indoor & outdoor seating, and even have a drive through if you are in a hurry. 

Day 4: Day Trip to Oregon Coast

Morning:

  • Rockaway Beach: Drive down the coast to Rockaway Beach. Enjoy a morning walk on the sandy shore, explore the quaint town, or check out the local shops.

Lunch:

  • Littoral: Stop in for drinks and bite to eat at this lovely cocktail bar in Rockaway Beach! The artisan pizzas and panins are fantastic and the cocktails alone are worth the visit. 

Afternoon:

  • Take a ride on the Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad! You can enjoy a scenic 30-miniute train ride along the Oregon Coast, powered by an authentic steam locomotive or vintage diesel locomotive! Trains can be picked up in Rockaway Beach or Garibaldi. 

Evening:

  • Early Dinner at Garibaldi Portside Bistro: During the layover before your return trip to Rockaway Beach on the Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad, grab a delicious meal at this bistro! 

Day 5: Relax and Unwind

Morning:

  • Sandlake Recreation Area: Spend a relaxing morning exploring this beautiful area, known for its sand dunes and scenic beauty. It's a great place for a leisurely walk or a picnic.

Lunch:

  • Dutch Mill Cafe: Return to Tillamook and grab some burgers & fries at this super cute 1950’s-themed diner! 

Afternoon:

  • Tillamook Air Museum: Finish off your trip with a visit to this museum housed in a World War II blimp hangar. It’s a fascinating place to learn about aviation history and see a collection of aircraft. The “Mini Guppy” aircraft outside the museum is worth seeing - it has a fascinating history! 

Evening:

  • Dinner at Pacific Restaurant: End your visit with a trip to this fine dining establishment in Tillamook. This place prides itself on offering a delightful culinary experience with a focus on fresh, locally sourced ingredients and Pacific Northwest flavors.
